Builder of the Month: Stephan from Massachusetts (May 2023)

Boom:

Congrats on being selected for Builder of the Month! Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

Stephan:

Hi, my name is Steve I am 39 years old from Massachusetts. I have always been into cars. For me it didn't matter if they were real cars, model cars, or RC cars; anything with 4 tires and a motor. I have been building 1/24th scale model cars since I was a little kid.  I got my first RC car, a Grasshopper, when I was 8 years old. My brother and I would have drag races around the backyard to see whose car was faster. I really got more involved with the RCs in 2018 because of my friend Shawn. He was into buggy racing, short-course racing, and crawling. I found that the more we talked about his cars the more I realized I wanted some of my own.  My first crawler was a Vaterra Suburban, and I was hooked. I realized this was a hobby for me. I began collecting multiple RCs over the years.  I would modify and customize each one to my style.

What Boom Racing products do you have experience with? Share some insights about what you like about them.

Stephan:

I got involved with Boom Racing when I bought a used BRX01 from a friend back in 2022. I really loved the truck and realized I wanted more of their products. At USTE this year I won a preproduction 6 X 6 BRX02. I then bought a Limited Edition BRX01 and also bought a leaf kit BRX02. The Boom Racing Trucks are very well put together, they are top quality.  Also, the customer service has been amazing. They are always there to help answer any questions that you may have about your trucks.

I changed out the body on the 6X6 because that one was signed but I loved the look so I got a replica of that body style. I painted it Aluminum and flat Black. I ended up adding tube-style doors, custom front and rear bumpers, a winch, and a roll bar. With the BRX01 Limited Edition, I painted it Sunburst Yellow with flat Black to make it stand out when we are on the trails. The BRX02 Leaf Kit has a pickup truck body. I added tube doors and painted them red. I added in an 1800 Fusion Motor for more crawling power. I really enjoy the Boom Trucks.  All together I have 5 and have ordered the new Series 3-109.

My next Boom build is the Series III 109. I have big plans for this truck once it arrives.

Boom:

Who and/or what inspires you in the hobby?

Stephan:

Other than the trucks my favorite part of the RC world is the friendships that you make.  Every person builds their trucks differently and seeing the variation and creativity that people come up with inspires me with each build.

Boom:

Thanks for sharing your builds with us! Do you have any tips or advice for others in the hobby?

Stephan:

My advice is to take your time building them. Read the directions thoroughly and ask questions if you get confused. Make each build your own. Add in the accessories, colors, and scale items that you like.
