Builder of the Month: Patrice from Belgium (April 2023)

Boom:

Welcome to Builder of the Month! Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

Patrice:

Hello, my name is Patrice and I'm 44 years old. I'm from Belgium, and I've been interested in cars since I was a kid. When I was just 3 years old, my parents gave me my first RC car, a Jeep from Nikko. That's when my love for RC cars began. When I turned 15, I bought my first quality RC cars, a Kyosho Buggy 1/8 and a Tamiya 1/10. I even participated in some championships just for fun.

Between the ages of 20 and 40, I didn't do much RC, except for a little bit of plane flying and 2 years of Scalextric. During that time, I was more interested in scale models, particularly BBR, MR Models, and Autoart in 1/18 and 1/43 scales.

Then came COVID, and my business had to close, which was a sad time for me. But it was also the beginning of my journey into the crawler world.

What Boom Racing products do you have experience with? Share some insights about what you like about them.

Patrice:

At first, I bought some RC cars that you can find anywhere, like Traxxas, Axial, and MST. But lexan and polycarbonate weren't my thing, as they didn't offer enough possibilities and weren't scale enough in my eyes. That's when I decided to find another brand that was more scale. I tried all the models from another US brand, RC4WD, but in my head, I was looking for a BRX01. Finally, at the end of 2022, I took the plunge and bought my first Boom Racing (BRX02) in Germany. That was the beginning. The build was great, the quality was so much better, and the scale possibilities were so great.

Builder of the month - BRX02

I made different bodies for each chassis. The first one was a heritage version, then for a more aggressive look, I made a yellow Spectre version. The third was a utility version in gunmetal, all for the BRX02 4x4. After the BRX02 4x4 leaf version, it was time to try the 6x6 link version. For the 6x6, I made a black metallic (a little bit like the Flying Huntsman) and a vintage blue, more classic style.

The last one I just finished is a red one, with tubular doors. I wanted a badass version, and I love the look of this one so much. I saw the Dually limited edition on Facebook, which gave me the idea to make a BRX01 Dually. I'm very impressed with the capabilities of this scale chassis.

Are there any future Boom Racing builds you are planning?

Patrice:

Next up is the BRX02 Series III 109, and the build begins in May. It's a really amazing looking car! Today, I think it will be very complicated for me to buy another brand. What I like about Boom Racing is the quality of their products. Everything is top-notch right out of the box. The build is nice, and the bodies are so nice. The communication with the company and Jason Tsang is great too.

Definitely, Boom Racing is top. I have many ideas for future builds! Since September 2022, I have had the pleasure of doing my hobby with some nice friends. Sunday is crawling day with Just For Fun RC. We are a small group of friends, and we like to build and drive together.

Boom:

Thanks for sharing your builds with us! Do you have any tips or advice for others in the hobby?

Patrice:

Although I'm not a professional, my advice for purchasing a crawler/scale is to trust your instincts and ideas. In my opinion, constructing your own vehicle is the best way to understand how it operates. While purchasing a ready-to-run (RTR) model is easier, it's not as thrilling as building your own unique creation.

In addition, investing in a high-quality vehicle is a wise decision, despite the additional expense. It provides a better return on investment and more enjoyable experiences. Take your time to carefully choose, visualize, and construct your own car. I wish everyone many enjoyable moments with their RC cars, and by choosing Boom Racing, you're ensuring years of pleasure from your investment.
