The front mounted motor with portal axles are ingredients for a scaler that can’t be stopped.

Well I have one and I'm pairing this chassis with an amazingly detailed replica of a truck that is well known in the outback for being a bulletproof overland and farm truck…the Killerbody LC70 which in real life is a Toyota LC79.

Been eyeing the Killerbody LC70 hardbody since it came out and as soon as they revised it for their version 2 I snagged one up from Asiatees Hobbies…

I found an article by Asiatees (https://www.asiatees.com/article?id=2967) on how they mounted up the LC70 body and decided to kind of follow that one…

While unboxing the body, you'll immediately notice the incredible detail that has gone into this.

I was originally going to leave it white, but while spraying the grill and engine bay, I somehow got some black over spray on the roof. Found some Rustoleum satin nutmeg in my collection of spray paint and sprayed it up. I had some issues with the paint and the bed but easily corrected that. I then mounted up some 1.55 beadlock wheels and tires that will easily fit inside the wheel wells and tuck when crawling over obstacles.

I then ordered up some RC4WD lights designed specifically for the LC70 body and got some yellow stickers from an HPI sticker sheet for the fog lights…gotta be able to cut through the fog!

Now that the body is mounted where I want it to, time for suspension tuning. As cool as the portal axles are, they just didn’t look right to me with the negative camber (weird for a solid axle I know). I picked up some MST CMX axles which are narrower than the MST portals and brings the truck closer to the ground to help with stability. The CMX axle kit comes with bearings which is nice. They also come with the CMX shock towers which don't have the holes for the body posts, since I'm not using posts I swapped over to them.

I ended up changing the rear suspension since it was just too soft, I took my dremel and a cutoff wheel and cut out some areas where the shock towers and shocks would be able to stick through.

while driving this truck it really has a sense of realism, the tires are inside the fenders and with full tire tuck there isn't any rubbing at all. Even with the stock looking suspension it can still flex and crawl over obstacles and get you up rock faces just as good as any other trail truck. I'am thoroughly impressed with the MST CFX-W and the Killerbody LC70.
