Meet Khai - Builder of the Month Father's Day Edition

For some of us, R/C was introduced to us by our previous generation and therefore came with unforgettable childhood memories.
We look forward to sharing Khai Azmi's story below about how his passion for R/C stuck with him throughout his life and how he shares the hobby with his children.

I'm Khai Azmi from Malaysia. I'm a graduate architect passionate about small-scale miniature models. After finishing my studies, I ventured into the architectural scale model industry. As a model maker, I felt something was incomplete as I could only build and not play, so I made a comeback into the remote control car scene.

Being a car enthusiast and building scaled objects, I found the R/C crawler world fascinating because I can build them like real ones and play with them. Initially, I was introduced by my father to remote control cars back when I was 13 years old. Back then, we couldn't afford high-end models. So we only played with toy grades and stopped playing due to lack of funds.

My interest in R/C never faded when I grew up and became a dad. I wanted my son to have the same experience as I had with my father. So I started buying R/C cars again and customized them, starting with toy grade and slowly moving to Hobby grade cars. My interest in the Land Rover Defender was high, but sadly I can't afford a real one, so I just stuck with the 1/10th scale.

Then Boom Racing came out with their BRX02 Land Rover defender. I was mesmerized by their quality level and the details of their scaled body. So I didn't wait too long to get myself a unit of BRX02. Building the kit was a great experience. The quality of the metal's finishing and fitting on all parts was on point. So I didn't hesitate to buy a few more BRX models afterward. As for now, I own 3 BRX02s and a BRX01.

What is best about R/C crawlers is that I spend time with my kids, as crawlers can only go smoothly and slowly. I get to train them on trailing sessions or playing around the house. I try to give them the experiences I had during my childhood with my father. Hopefully, they can pass on these experiences to their kids in the future. Finally, some people always ask me what inspires me in this hobby. I will gladly tell them that my father was the first to spark my interest in R/C cars. To my Dad, you are my greatest hero and an inspiration to me. Love you, Abah.
