KrawlZoneRC: RR10 Bomber Initial Thoughts

When I received the Axial Bomber, just by seeing the artwork on the box, I knew that this wasn’t going to be some parts bin vehicle that several people had commented in the various forums I subscribe to. I quickly cut open the Axial Racing sealed box stickers and pulled the Bomber out of its nicely packaged cocoon. The new Axial RC filled the room while I proceeded to google each detail that this cage has to offer.

First-person view in the Bomber!

The cage itself is an actual scaled down Bomber Fabrications cage and look amazing. It has optional dual shock mounts, rear Yeti sway bar mounts, and spare tire holder (which can be removed completely for a clean fast back look). Up front it has faux King shock reservoirs that are mounted to the side of the scale looking inner fenders, which also serves as the ends of the battery holder. The new Axial Licensed King Shocks feel and look amazing. They weren’t leaking and felt solid. The Bomber does sit a tad bit high for my taste, but it doesn’t look like a monster truck. One thing that I’m really stoked about is the battery box and its placement. It swings forward by removing 2 body pins and the bottom of the box is adjustable and may accommodate popular 3s size LiPo batteries and smaller. Also noteworthy is that the Ae-5 ESC now has the popular deans connector attached to it. The bottom of the Bomber has a very familiar yet unfamiliar feel to it. The front consists of Wraith sized suspension links yet the rear carries over from the high speed Yeti, with the only thing missing is the grasshopper style rear sway bar. They look great and and feel solid. The Bomber also has a new center skid plate that has a Yeti tranny bolted to it. With all the steel gears inside, you’ll be able to run some serious brushless power. You can also attach the new Yeti 2-speed to it to either reach down low for some ultra slow crawling or smoke the tires for some break neck speed action.

Opening the hood to the Bomber.

Speaking of tires, the Bomber is also sporting a new set of rubber to grip the rocks. They’re replicas of BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2’s in Axial’s new tire compound, S30. They feel soft and sticky, but until I get this on some dry rocks, I’ll withhold my judgement of them. All I’m willing to say now is they look amazing!

Lookin' just fine in the snow.

All in all, I’d say from the looks of this it’s going to be a fun and solid rig. I’ve got some serious upgrades coming for this in the form of a potent sensored brushless setup so be on the lookout for a video of this thing soon (if it doesn’t snow!).
