RC Cars is such an exciting hobby, and for some, it’s an almost therapeutic experience: to achieve a sense of accomplishment through completing a build, finishing a race, or even winning one! Regardless of the reasons why we play RC cars, it’s only natural that we would want to share this with our kids and the future generation. Most kids would love to have a chance to drive a vehicle and run it through the dirt, mud, grass, or gravel tracks. Even more entertaining for them is jump really high or to crash into other vehicles. When it comes to kids, you want to make sure that your vehicle is durable and ready for action. Kids around this age range aren’t usually very patient. Instant gratification is exactly what they need. Here are some of our recommended RTR cars that can hold their own on the track, in no particular order, and in all different scales.

1. 1/10 Traxxas Stampede 4X4 VXL

We hear a lot of stories about the Traxxas Stampede 4X4 VXL and how damn durable it is! This RTR Brushless Monster Truck is fitted with waterproof electronics, TQi 2.4GHz Radio system , and can drive at speeds up to 30+mph right out the box! Of course, if you’re worried about your child and their safety while driving this badboy, you can set the Electronic Speed Controller to a Training Mode profile, which cuts the power profile of the vehicle by 50%. This makes it an ideal vehicle to run for beginners, and it also lets them slowly move up the power scale so that when they’re fully ready, they can utilize 100% of the vehicle’s power and do some major bashing! The Stampede also has a 4-position wheelie bar so that your child can do some awesome wheelies all the time! The Stampede 4X4 VXL has a huge variety of hop-ups and parts to upgrade your car with, if your child decides to get into the hobby a bit more, or if you need to replace a broken part, though that isn’t likely (At least not for a while!) A definite asset in your starting arsenal if you’re looking to get your kids started.

2. 1/18 Team Losi Mini-T

Team Losi has been in the market for mini and micro series RC cars, and honestly, they’re doing it right. The Mini-T is based off of their 1/10 scale race truck XXX-T, and it was made to provide an affordable and complete RTR model that will provide a lot of fun for veterans and newbies alike. The 1/18th scale size is also notable, as it might be a bit more reassuring to know that your child is driving a slightly more size-friendly vehicle in relation to their own size. In addition to being RTR, the Mini-T is a pretty popular model, resulting in plenty of parts and pieces for you and your kids to add onto your vehicle. Combined with a small, compact size and the peace of mind that every parent looks for when their kids are dealing with some serious toys, the Team Losi Mini-T might be exactly what you’re looking for. It’s also small enough for indoor use, so this would be an awesome car for those rainy days when the outdoors isn’t a viable area for playing. Only notable thing to keep track of is that because of its smaller scale, the vehicle might have a hard time in tall grasses, so be warned!

3. 1/24 HSP Sport Rally

HSP’s 1/24 4WD RTR Sport Rally is so cute that honestly, you might not be able to let go of it! We’re going a completely different route now. This RTR vehicle is best played indoors or on roads, not dirt. This would be a great fit for the urban family who doesn’t get a lot of chances to go out to the dirt courses. At 175mm in length and 100mm in width, this tiny racer will suit your child’s needs when he needs some entertainment indoors. The vehicle also has upgrade parts that you can tinker with. There are three different colors available, so your kid can choose whichever color he likes and still have fun in the process. Best way to play these little RCs is to set up your own mini course at home, filled with jumps and turns. That’s a sure way to burn at least a few hours of your kids time, with set up and driving, and clean up!

4. 1/10 Traxxas Rustler

Here we go again with another Traxxas car! But that’s just a testament to how user-friendly they are! The Rustler is another crowd favorite among young hobbyists. With very similar specs to the Stampede, the Rustler can stand toe-to-toe with other cars any day, and still come out looking fresh. The Rustler has slightly less ground clearance than the Stampede, but fitted with pretty similar parts. All of their upgrades are interchangeable, and there’s an abundance of parts that you can find for both. Also fully waterproofed and RTR, this 1/10 monster is a RC that will make you shed a tear as you see your kid tearing through the dirt. Both durable and swift, the Rustler will keep your child’s attention for a long time. It also features the Training Mode for the ESC so that you can set up how fast you want the RC to go, allowing you to safely overlook your child’s racing times and how well they can handle a beast like this.

5. 1/10 HPI E10

HPI’s E10 is an awesome touring car that is incredibly easy to drive. In addition to being an awesome car to drive, the RTR is fitted with a 2014 Ford Mustang RTR shell, how cool is THAT? With the RTR car comes a high-performance ESC that includes throttle, brakes, and reverse, allowing your kids full control over their motions. The electric motor provided is a Saturn 27T, giving it enough punch to keep kids interested and enough reliability that you as parents don’t need to go replacing it or fixing it up. The E10 also has standard body mounting points so that if your kids aren’t happy with the Mustang body, you can always replace it with one that they like! If your kids are getting good at driving, you can also convert this to a drift car if they feel like that’s more their “scene”. This one is for the kids that don’t like the dirty and gritty outdoors, but wants to get a waft of that sweet aroma of asphalt as your wheels screech against the ground. (Word of warning: that smell is definitely NOT a good thing, so try not to catch too much of it)

So there you have it. A list of vehicles that we believe will serve your children well and get them interested in this hobby, because for the majority of us, that’s what this is; a hobby. Remember to have fun, and make sure you guys stay safe!
