Our Top 5 1/10 Vaterra Twin Hammers V2 Upgrades
Ahh... the Twin Hammers 4WD. Named after the race trails in California Mojave Desert, it’s largely been overtaken in popularity by Axial platforms, but it’s still a very respectable crawler with a lot of fans and some very nice scale aftermarket upgrades. Vaterra refreshed the Twin Hammers RTR earlier this year, and now it’s got 4-link suspension, waterproof electronics and a new body look as standard, with roof LEDs.
Here are our top 5 upgrades in no particular order:
Boom Racing Performance Combo Upgrade Set with Tool Box
This all-aluminum upgrade package includes anodized metal caster blocks, steering knuckles and front suspension arms. Laser-etched with the Boom Racing logo, these super-tough performance parts come in a range of anodized colors, adding some beautiful chrome to your Twin Hammers.
GCM Racing VTH Front Tower Plate
Arguably the most important upgrade to a stock Twin Hammers is a new front tower plate. It’s important not because of what it is, but of what it does. The mod allows upright front shocks to be used with the Twin Hammers at full travel. A must-have for those looking for serious upgrades, this gives you full suspension swing with popular shocks that work with other crawlers such as the Axial SCX-10. Each kit includes all new hex hardware, a new front base plate, and 2 front shock hoops.
Boom Racing Suspension Links (Upper/Lower)
We blogged about these a while back. Suspension links are parts that regularly undergo a lot of stress, as they transfer the motions up to the shock towers. These Boom Racing upper and lower aluminum suspension links fit the new 4-link suspension setup in the Twin Hammers V2 perfectly. Also anodized for toughness, they’ll last much longer than the stock part. Match colors with the Boom Racing upgrade set above for maximum style!
Boom Racing Beadlock Wheels
More weight is always a plus when it comes to crawling. Available in 1.9' or 2.2', these heavy-duty aluminum alloy beadlock wheels aren't just for scale looks. They add over a hundred grams of weight per wheel to maximize crawling performance. With all four wheels weighted solidly down, you can get way more traction and performance out of your Twin Hammers.
Savox High Torque Titanium Gear Digital Servo
Sometimes you just need way more power than the stock servo can provide, especially with heavy-duty chrome beadlocks. For those people, Savox coughs up some awesome servos. Built to fit a variety of heavy-duty rigs, these titanium geared, digital servos feature a wide variety of different specs. Try to ensure that you have enough power to turn your beadlocks/tires in any condition, especially considering the tough terrain this rock racer will be hitting.
