Meet Matthew - Builder of the Month Father's Day Edition

Boom:

Can you tell us about yourself and how you got into the hobby?

Matthew:

My name is Matthew Maynard, 39 yrs old and almost 8 yrs a Dad. I work at a lumber company in Indiana as a forklift operator and designated floater. I love working on all kinds of vehicles, from full-size to tiny. Golf is my sport. I got into the hobby way back in the 90s, then took a break for a while. I got back into it about 6 yrs ago and heavy again with a Traxxas Slash.

Boom:

What was the hardest thing about being a dad and what surprised you?

Matthew:

I don't think I've seen the hardest part about being the dad of a daughter yet. So I know it is coming. And the most surprising thing is how much having a little baby girl was really going to change how I perceived and walk through life.

Boom:

What Boom Racing products do you have experience with? Share some insights about what you like about them.

Matthew:

I own a BRX01, a BRX01 LE, two BRX02s, and Savannah owns a BRX01. I personally think that the craftsmanship of the chassis is second to none. The ease to which parts fit together and Boom Racing has survived everything I've put it through so far. As to insights, just make sure not to overuse the tuning shims, and don't forget your lock tight.

Boom:

What are your favorite R/C moments with Savannah?

Matthew:

Anytime it's her and I driving through the trails is amazing for me. Just the pure time spent with her without the distractions of everyday life. Also, whenever she tells someone about her rigs like a boss makes me so proud.

Boom:

Who or what inspires you in the hobby?

Matthew:

I was introduced to crawling by a childhood friend and then he showed me a video of RCSparks crawling Optimus Prime and it was over from there. Now the sheer ability to make moving art and see what these lil trucks are made of keeps me coming back.

Boom:

Do you have any tips or advice for others in the hobby?

Matthew:

My biggest tip would be to be patient when building. Remember, you're supposed to enjoy the hobby. Pick your lines well when driving; the drive will be more fun. Finally, always include family because these are the moments and memories that will last a lifetime.
