Boom Racing at the 2025 UK Scaler Nationals

In its 14th year as a biannual event, this May's Scale Extravaganza at Bracken Rocks, near Matlock in Derbyshire, was truly memorable. The Scaletra Team placed three 100-gate Scaletra-branded trails at the event, with an additional 400-gate Boom Racing BRX-friendly 'Super Scale Trial'. The latter was so well-received that we will expand on it at October's event. Longer BRX-friendly trails allowed rigs that usually sat the event out, or just got entered in the 'Show n Shine' to be run, and the smiles on people's faces as they came back in after completing the 400 gates said it all. After this event, we even had a new saying: "Who's Got the Boom Racing Grin?"

Since pre-COVID, this occasion marked the largest turnout of scale enthusiasts of all ages and genders. By the driver's briefing, the road opposite the Scale Hut was four-deep and stretched as far as the eye could see with impressive rigs.

Many Boom Racing builds were in attendance, with faces old and new from the UK scene. It was great to put faces to the names we see online, and the Boom Racing booth was busy all weekend.

We had an amazing display of rigs by Peter Gray, Paul Shevlin and Dave Barton (AKA Overland Adventure). We helped owners with technical questions and made some great new friends and contacts over the weekend.

New Attendees and Remarkable Builds

The event has a core following of dedicated UKSN attendees and their families, but this year saw the greatest influx of new faces, new families, and truly remarkable builds.

Notable attendees included Robin Schumacher from Schumacher Racing, the distributor of Vanquish in the UK, Martin Domonay, the Editor of Land Rover Monthly, and numerous social media influencers and scale groups.

With 1300 gates of trails to run, two Judge's Comp Courses, and a 'Tiny 4x4' Micro Trail, there was ample activity to engage any scale and crawling enthusiast throughout the three days of the event.

We had a booth set up, with team drivers from Boom and me assisting attendees in setting up the app and completing the challenge. The Scaletra Challenge was live during the event, featuring a 4 km distance goal. Additionally, we successfully mapped the Boom Racing 400 Gate SS Trail using the app. Future event implementation will be a valuable addition for any event organizer. As the host, I can genuinely see the potential, as did all the participants who completed the challenge and collected their physical prize of a bag of coffee, specially roasted by RoarGill.com coffee in Solihull, near JLR, the home of Land Rover.

Always a Force for Good

This event traditionally raises funds for a chosen charity, and this year supported #Snappitderbyshire, a teen mental health charity (No. 1207483). Snapp-it is a free, mobile application that offers a safe and confidential sign-posting service supporting the mental, emotional, physical, and sexual health and wellbeing of children and young people. This May's event raised £3700, and a large cheque was presented to the charity after Sunday's prize-giving raffle.

We eagerly anticipate the next event in October and intend to integrate the app into the trails and set another engaging challenge.

A big thank you to all that attended and took part in the weekend, and that downloaded and used the app…#VirtualFistBump!

Have a great #ScaletraAdventure and a #SuperScale #BoomRacing #Badass weekend…
