Axial Wraith Upgrades Tips and Tricks – Wheels and Tires
Stock Wheels and Tires:
The stock wheels that came with the RTR version of the Axial Wraith are a plastic glued design, just like any other RTR version of trucks. The wheels come vented to allow air to flow in and out for a much stable ride. The tires are made of a very hard compound, but it does offer some nice level of traction.
Upgrading the Wheels:
Rock crawling and bashing with the Axial Wraith both put a lot of stress on the stock plastic wheels. The more weight you put on the car, the worse it will perform with the plastic wheels. Upgrading it to aluminum wheels would not only give a better strength to support your truck, as well as having a much stronger hex area to keep you from spinning the wheels due to excessive torque. It is also beneficial to get the beadlock design. Having beadlock would allow you to change tires without using glue and securely hold the beads of the tires with screws.
Upgrading the Tires:
For Tires, the compound is the most important factor. The stock tires do not provide enough traction when they are performing on the rocks and trails. There are a few important features you would want to look at when upgrading the tires.
The Height:
the height matters as it will increase the top speed or lower the top speed of your truck if the tires are shorter as well as lowering the gears or heighten the gears if you get a taller wheel tires. Stay 5.5 inch tall would be the best because you do not need to change anything that might not be beneficial.
Thread and Patterns: An aggressive lug pattern will work well in a lot of surface, even in dirt and mud. The tread depth also needs to be considered because there’s a tradeoff going too deep or shallow.
The Compound:
Being the most important factor is necessary to choose the right one with the correct level of softness. You would need to get a soft tire that can be conform to the surface, but not too soft that it will roll under the Wraith when trying to make a turn or side hill. Some tires state out the degree of the tire, which it means that the higher the degree, the harder the tire.
Foams:
the foam is an essential part of the tires. They have different hardness for each, and some even provide more traction as well as being waterproof. They are not expensive but if the tires already have nice foam then it is not necessary to change it.
