Boom Racing:
Marcin, congratulations on being named Boom Racing’s Builder of the Month! To start off, could you share a bit about your background and how you first became involved with the RC hobby?
Marcin Skrzypek:
It's a three-generation story that begins with driving around with the kids just for fun and ends with a small workshop with my father, where we manufacture little amounts of RC parts. It all started in 2017 when I bought my son a bashing Monster Truck from HPI for about €150. At the time, we thought it was the best model in the world at a premium price... But a few weeks later, I discovered there were trial models. Slow but ambitious, and I felt that this is exactly what I am looking for! To start, I bought a 1/10th-scale HPI Venture FJ Cruiser RTR. My sons and I were amazed that it can reach everywhere. By the way, the first upgrade I ever did was the HUSTLER 1.9 106 mm wheels and KRAIT™ 1.9 Deep Dish rims from Boom Racing – I still use them to this day, and it is one of my favorite designs. Then I purchased a 1979 TRX4 Ford Bronco and loaded it with a lot of expensive upgrades.
My wife is a professional photographer, and I learned to take pictures of RC models. For a long time, it was my favorite part of the hobby! I really like the photo with a sunset and water splashes. I also made a Jeep Wrangler 1:10 replica that was used in a bank advert:

Boom Racing:
What was the first RC you ever built yourself from a kit and why?
Marcin Skrzypek:
It was Axial SCX10 II Raw Builders Kit 1/10 4WD V2 - in 2018, this chassis was considered the most versatile and offered the widest range of possibilities. From realistic to extreme. I decided to use Lexan, but tried to make it as realistic as possible. A rare Axial Chevrolet C10 body was a great option (I've painted about seven of them so far!). The model had one of the best motors available – the Xerun AXE540-1800KV Combo (Fusion wasn't available yet). I also added my all-time favorite Savox SW1210 servo and Sanwa MT-44 radio.
Boom Racing:
When did you first discover the Boom Racing brand, and what made you buy one?
Marcin Skrzypek:
As I mentioned earlier, it all started very quickly (a few months after entering the hobby). I bought tires (Hustler) and rims (Krait). Back then, everyone was saying only Rock Beast, Voodoo KLR, and Hyrax tires mattered. But I wanted something original and more scale-looking. And Boom Racing had the most beautiful rims of all brands I knew at the time. I bought the chassis much later... I had to grow up! That was in 2022, and of course, it was a BRX01 with an LC70 body. This was purchased when the Scale Garage System already existed, so this RC was also a demo car for our Canopy Flatbed release. I think I experienced something we all felt – fascination with the quality, attention to detail, the ease of kit assembly, and, of course, the way Boom Racing approaches customers and builds a community. It's a complete 360 premium experience. It's worth adding that I was previously more involved with RC4WD (as an international team driver) and built a few models of that brand, but I left that program so I could build as many Boom Racing models as I wanted without any problems or restrictions—which is a lot, LOL.

Boom Racing:
How do Boom Racing RC cars compare to other brands you've used in the past?
Marcin Skrzypek:
I have already talked about a few advantages. But for me, the very idea behind Boom Racing is very important: creating models that perform very well, but we can actually see these kinds of vehicles on the streets or in factories. Honestly, in Europe, the typical American lifted chassis (like RC4WD does) looks a bit like a... goat. On the other hand, Axial and Traxxas (except Lexan) have too wide axles, making it difficult to hide the wheels under the fenders. What I love about Boom Racing kits is the fact that once assembled, you feel that it is COMPLETE. All modifications that you make are "nice to have" but not a "must". Other brands' users say: replace this, change that, and throw these parts away. Here, everything is high quality, and you feel like you're getting a complete model.
Boom Racing:
Can you tell us about your Boom Racing builds?
Marcin Skrzypek:
Currently, I own 8 Boom Racing models, and I made many more projects for my friends and clients. I will just focus on the three ones that I consider the most remarkable:
TRANS AFRICA Boom Racing BRX02 Land Rover Series III 109 - since 2020, I was waiting for someone to release Series III RC 1:10 model, and I was so happy to see Boom Racing doing it! I did my best to create a unique project - I think it gained quite a lot of attention, and thousands of people who saw the content were convinced that it was a real car! It was a realism beyond RC :)
CAT DUMP TRUCK Boom Racing BRX02 Land Rover Series III 109 - it included a dump bed that really works! I consider it to be the absolutely most advanced build that I created (with my father). It was the main prize for superScale 2025. I met Jason at this event, and we gave this prize to a tombola winner! It was made by Scale Garage System in cooperation with Boom Racing (who delivered the kit and add-ons), Markus (superScale), Quentin Farcy, Dariusz Cybula and Crazy Crawler. It was also featured in the Best Builds of Scale Builder's Guild forum 2025.
Here I could also mention another project that was a prize at the special event - DRAGON Land Rover 109 made for Asian Scale Invasion Return of the Dragon Recon G6. I loved it!
TOWING TRUCK Boom Racing BRX02 Land Rover Series III 109 - another 109... So far, I created two towing trucks and the white one is owned by my friend Vincent Peters. The green one was featured in the Best Builds of Scale Builder's Guild forum 2024. It really works, and I like the unique paint job scheme that is my fantasy (I rarely make replicas). I also definitely have to highlight the Safari Boom Racing BRX02 Land Rover Series III 88, which is now available for sale as part of the new Boom Racing initiative!
Boom Racing:
What is the biggest tip you can give a new Boom Racing customer to aid their construction, or elevate the performance of a BRX-based rig?
Marcin Skrzypek:
I was never about performance; for me, building a model is mainly a creative process. I feel that sometimes this process is too short and reduced just to colour choice. Here's so much inspiration from real cars that help create your own unique model! My advice is simple – give yourself plenty of time to look for inspiration (e.g., on Pinterest) and try to develop the skills to create something truly original. When I created my ZIL, I launched a dedicated Facebook Group for other ZIL owners where I share my weathering techniques. To help others to create their own rusty projects even if they did not have enough experience.
Boom Racing:
Boom Racing has just launched a new Bespoke RC Crawler Builds section, offering one-off, custom builds for sale. You’re the first builder to list a vehicle there. What made you decide to offer this build, and what do you hope people will take away from seeing your truck featured in this new space?
Marcin Skrzypek:
A long time ago, I understood that becoming a collector is not for me - I don't like having models waiting to be driven on a shelf. I have 3 kids, and I don't have too much time to drive. Until now, my projects were available as custom bodyshells with Scale Garage System products. This time, I decided to offer a complete model. I owned this chassis for over a year, but the body was created a few months ago, and I really like it very much, but honestly, it has become a shelf-queen.
Boom Racing:
Tell us about the build you currently have listed on boomracing.com. What inspired it, and what makes this truck different from a standard kit build?
Marcin Skrzypek:
This is a design with soul, hand-painted in my own style, which I've been working on for a long time. And of course, it has a handmade rack. The inspiration comes from African Land Rovers roaming the savannah. It is typical for my designs that paintwork is my own imagination—I haven't tried to copy anything.
Boom Racing:
When building a one-off truck like this, where do you personally draw the line between performance, scale realism, and creativity?
Marcin Skrzypek:
Honestly, I prioritize fun and creativity over the other two aspects. Although my designs are considered realistic, I do many things just the way I like them. I invent cars that don't exist. I don't like "scale police." An example of an approach that I admire is the ZIL built by Dariusz Cybula, who was the first one to combine the ZIL cab with our Canopy Flatbed, resulting in something eclectic and surprising, yet also very creative. Performance isn't my priority, but I really appreciate the way Boom Racing models drive.
Boom Racing:
Who do you think this build is for? A collector, a driver, or someone looking for inspiration for their own project?
Marcin Skrzypek:
I think anyone who chooses this model will know best. Every intention is a good one!
Boom Racing:
Can you describe your creative process when planning a new build?
Marcin Skrzypek:
I recommend this video showing most stages of this process: https://youtu.be/gn_NWPo8rm8.
Some major steps:
- Extensive research - Pinterest is priceless, Facebook groups with real cars are a great source of inspiration (e.g., Land Rover Towing Trucks!). I even ordered books about Land Rovers!
- Visualization - most projects are created as visualizations in Photoshop, Illustrator, and recently AI, of course.
- Prototyping with a touch of improvisation and chaos. Many people who print and design in 3D know exactly what output they can expect. But hand-working with metal like ours requires a slightly different approach, and sometimes you have to start and then go back.
Boom Racing:
Given the choice, do you prefer straight or portal axles in a kit, and why? What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?
Marcin Skrzypek:
The more realistic, the better. These are usually straight axles, but for some RC models, they should be portal axles. But is not my priority to be honest!
Boom Racing:
What are your favourite tools and why? What would you recommend a newcomer to the hobby invest in? Is expensive always good, or can you get quality at a lower price?
Marcin Skrzypek:
In my workshop, I use Proxxon tools—they're brilliant for modelling, especially with aluminium. But they're not for beginners. I always say good hexagonal wrenches are essential, because you can damage screws with cheap tools. I like the set of tools that was added to Boom Racing kits!
Boom Racing:
If you could build any rig, based on a 4x4 or vehicle you admire from any era, what would that be, and why does it mean so much to you personally?
Marcin Skrzypek:
If I had freedom of choice (I have many responsibilities at Scale Garage System), I would make Japanese off-roaders from the 80s and 90s like the Nissan Patrol GR Y60, Mitsubishi Pajero or Land Cruiser J80.
Boom Racing:
Looking ahead to 2026, do you have any exciting plans or projects in the pipeline you can share with us?
Marcin Skrzypek:
I am not able to plan more than 3 months ahead - it depends on new releases! For sure, soon I will create a military LC70 with our new Scale Garage System rack (you could already see some work in progress content).
Maybe finally I will try to build a 6x6 Defender.
Can't wait to see some new releases teased during superScale 2025! For sure, I will try to create something unique!
